Denim Journal Class at Memory Bound

Fascinated with book making, and inspired by book making books and projects by Donna Downey, I came up with this Denim Journal. I have also made one from leather and one from an old quilt.

I made this one to teach at a class at Memory Bound Scrapbook Store in Ankeny this coming Sunday. If you live in the area, I'd love to help you create one of your own!
These are very fun and easy to make.

Here's the class description:

Make this fun blank journal to fill with photos or words. We will use the Crop-A-Dile Big Bite and a stitching technique to create this fun journal. Bring a piece of denim, or any other fun fabric you want to use, that is no smaller than 7x18 inches in size. The pages (6x6) are a mixture of clear overlays, fun patterned paper, notebook paper and cardstock. We will do some stamping and paper distressing too.

Supplies to bring: Crop-A-Dial Big Bite, if you have one, modge podge or gel medium, large eyed sewing needle, if you have one.

The class is from 12:30 to 4:30 Sunday, January 11. The cost is 24.00$.

Getting back to routine after the Christmas travels. Here's a few pics from the last week.
No idea why he wanted these all stuck on HIM? I hope it's not a sign of things to come. He also had on a set of wireless headphones he's been carrying around for the last month. A rocker in training? YeeIkes I hope not!

It wasn't raining, that day at least. He spotted the umbrella in the garage and had to have it! Notice the safety glasses!

Then inside for hot chocolate, not cocoa, but chocolate!

This NEVER happens, that Zoe is in such close proximity to LAD. However, he fell asleep in my lap, which also NEVER happens anymore, and I plopped him onto the bed, which Zoe was already occupying, so it wasn't really her choice. She's not so leary of him when he's sleeping... :) I think they slept together for a while, but eventually she vacated the location.

Unpacking Christmas

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. We sure did. Got back Saturday night, drove thru a lovely snow storm. Nothing like going from 65 degrees and rain to 25 and snow, and everything in-between! Good thing we had lots of weight in the back of the CRV!
Today we put out the new bird feeder I got for Christmas, Thanks Dad! The bottom had fallen out of our old one, the duct tape finally gave up.

A little more sledding, not as fun as last week!

Then back inside to "make something". LAD got a new baking set, complete with utensils, apron and pans. So we went to work!

Hey, he might as well learn how now!

Don't be fooled by the fork. This was the only part he used it for.

Damn it, I hate these puzzles. Thanks Ma. I thought LAD was going to solve it. Almost. It kept him busy for at least 20 minutes.

Spreading out Christmas...

We did some Christmas gift exchanging last week when we were in MO with Oma and Aunt Suzie. One package didn't get opened, it was kind of big and kind of, well, uh, big. So we packed it home to IA and it's been sitting behind the tree, being picked at slowly, and ooohed and aaahhed over. LAD asked me yesterday, when we were in WM, if we could open the Lightning Box. I said HUH? and it finally dawned on me, this is what he meant. It is wrapped in Lightning wrapping paper.
Last night our friends from DM came up and we did Christmas with them and of course we all scored big time. After all that was over, we decided to let LAD open the "Lightning Box".
This was what was in it.


Needless to say he was very excited! It took 6 C Cell batteries. Thankfully, at sometime in the last year or so I had picked up some at the Target Dollar Spot on clearance. Whew.
LAD, and Daddy, have been transformed into human tunnels! He's also been racing the train with RC (car from Toy Story). It's been too ccccold to go outside, so it has been a good way to burn off energy!



Today we're still on the first set of batteries and the cargo car has various other vehicles in it.

While I was transferring these videos from the Memory Stick on the video camera, I discovered it contained other videos, clear back to October 31, 2007. I like to shoot some clips on the memory stick to be able to transfer to computer easier than from tape. Obviously I have fallen behind on that job.
This was the first video I found. It made my cry.



LAD was almost two. What a difference 13 months, 5 lbs and 3 1/2 inches of tallness can make.

He went down facing forward several times, but then ended up turned around. "Just one more time, Daddy?"

Snow and Sleet Day

We got a couple inches of sleet, then a couple inches of snow. Travel Not Advised. So we're staying home. Randy cleared the driveway, at least down to the sleet layer! Then also was a good neighbor and cleared the driveway to our west. His snowblower crapped out! I think ours started first pull and has so far been very dependable (knock knock knock on wood)!

So far, LAD's still in PJs, I'm sure we'll be going out a little later today! I think Daddy left us some fluffy spots to hit with out shovels.
