Sad, sad, sad day

Yesterday we lost one of the best guys around, he was a great aviator, friend, father and husband. He taught me to fly back in 1993 and to this day I can still hear his voice in my head, talking me thru training maneuvers. I don't think I ever flew alone after I soloed, I always had Jerry's voice echoing in my head.

Oh, how many solo flights Jerry must have watched his students make!

How to Harve A Pumpkin

This was the Sunday before Halloween, when we "harved" our pumpkin, LAD's word!

First you cut the top off with a filet knife.

Next you check out what's inside, just guts!

Proceed to remove guts. But don't let them touch you! It didn't help that Daddy made a big deal about them!

Yet two days later they played with "guts" at daycare and I think he enjoyed that!

Quality Control. Make sure Daddy does it right and to inspector satisfaction.

Draw a face. Or just color the whole thing.

More QC, checking progress.

More QC, close inspection. Our 1.00$ tools paid off.

Dental work.

Act silly!

QC inspector acting silly!

More inspecting. Looks good.

Tonight was Beggar's Night for our town. We hit a few houses and ran into a few ghosts and Jack-O-Lanterns!

This is our Jack.

Happy Halloween!!!

Design Your Life

This LO is from week 2, some of the same pictures as from the earlier post. The Lost Photos. Some of these are my most favorite, not sure why, the lighting I think, and plus, he's the cutest kid ever!

Old paper from stash, matched the colors in my photos. this is an example of asymmetry.
Journaling says:
You:
Are Happy Happy Happy!
Love Peanut Butter and crackers
Amaze me every day
Drink from a cup at the table
Help feed Harry and Zoe
Love balls of all kinds and colors
Love to play trains with Thomas, Percy and Emily.
January 2008, 24 months.

Catching up, this was from week 3. Cathy provide this basic template and you just plopped in your photos, text and embellishments. I just went ahead and made this an all digital LO and have actually already printed it! Patterned paper by Tracy King, Home kit.

Layouts and concepts provided by Cathy Zielske, Design Your Life workshop at BigPictureScrapbooking.com.

7 Facts

I was tagged by my friend Janet

RULES:

* Link your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
* Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
* Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
* Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

My facts:

1) I can't stand hand lotion on my hands, at least the finger tips. I squirt it on the back of one hand and rub them back to back. My family thinks I'm weird for this, but who wants lotiony fingerprints everywhere. I'm an artist who wears contact lenses, so there!

2) I have no idea how to play Rock, Paper, Scissors.

3) I don't get the humor from shows like Saturday Night Live, Seinfeld, that Christine show- lady from Seinfeld, etc. I just don't get it. Now I do like Friends, Cheers and Frazier. Oh the good ole days! I can't say I like any shows on TV today, not that I watch enough to know. Randy watches 2 1/2 men and most of that humor I get and it's OK.

4) I hate a sink full of dirty dishes. The clean ones in the dish drainer don't bother me so much.

5) I rarely wear fingernail polish. I actually did wear it on my toes this summer, I had a nice pair of sandals!

6) We have a personal supplier of hand knitted slipper socks. We all wear them so much we wear holes in the bottom! Thanks Oma (Grandma Brunhilde). Pictured above are two brand new pair we just got a few weeks ago. LAD actually got two pair and I also got a new scarf too!

7) I have an uncanny knack for finding things on the ground, mostly like nails, nuts and bolts.

I'm tagging Ma, Jan, Cassie and whoever else might be reading this and hasn't already done it!

Tempting your taste buds!

Are you in need of Christmas gift ideas? Know someone who cooks, or at least likes to collect fun kitchen gadgets? Check out The Pampered Chef. LAD's daycare is doing their annual fundraiser and this year they are offering items from Pampered Chef. As Randy would say "want to see the catalog, open the cabinets" in our kitchen. Yeah, well, I do use the stuff! Anyway, they have some great items and if you are in need of making a purchase, I can set you up! You can view all their products online and orders are due by Oct 31.

And to temp your tastebuds even more, they are also selling Butter Braids Pastry Rolls. They have sold the Butter Braids in the past and are doing the Rolls this year. They come frozen, then you thaw and bake. They are YUMMMMMY.

If your interested in either, just let me know! All the funds raised go towards playground equipment and cots and chairs, etc for the class rooms. This place does a great job with all the kids and LAD just loves it there!

We went for pumpkins but got apples instead!

Weekend before last we went to the Berry Patch Farm where we had gone last year to pick pumpkins. We hopped on the hay wagon and rode out to the field, but turns out, they didn't plant pumpkins this year, to wet! So, we picked apples instead. LAD had a large time and put on a few miles, so it was all the same to him! He had to have a little help reaching the "good ones"! The ones we picked were Honeycrisp variety. They were delicious!

Then a couple days later we made Apple Crisp and I had lots of good help!

And a few days later, we peeled all the apples and put them into the freezer and LAD was right there, peeling every one!

Design Your Life

Cathy Zielske is teaching a class at Big Picture Scrapbooking called Design Your Life. It's all about design principles and putting them into practice in scrapbooking. I have both of Cathy's books, they are great. So when I saw that she was offering a class, I couldn't pass it up. I feel like I have a pretty good handle on Design all ready, but so far it's been a nice refresher and I'm picking up new things as we go. We are just now starting on our third week of class and it runs thru December. Here are a few catch up LOs that I've worked on so far. She provides the sketch. I really like doing these, they are simple and go together quickly, once photos are chosen and sized and printed!

Journaling:
The Lost Photographs. These photos were taken in January, 2008. Just a normal day, probably a Saturday or Sunday. Just snippets of our day. Sometime after this I was reformatting my computer and managed somehow to lose these original photos. However, thankfully, I had posted these to the blog, to share with family. I’m so glad I did that, otherwise they would be lost forever. I often think about these photos, frustrated with myself for losing them and they are the only ones (knock-on-wood) that I have ever lost. Digital is great, but there certainly is room for errors!!! Since then I have been even more diligent about backing up to an external hard drive!! I especially love the photos of LAD in the kitchen playing in the floor. The light was so great coming thru the south window. And the portrait of both of us in the bathroom mirror, priceless!
