Premier DeLuxe Model 1953

This post is mostly for my own sanity. I purchased this Premier DeLuxe Model 1953 sewing machine many years ago for 5$ at a yard sale. I only
bought it because it was portable (but I wouldn't want to port it
around too much!) and it can sew thru many layers of denim, something I've found newer machines not always able to do. Every time I go to use it and decide to change thread color, I rip the spool off before I remember that this is a b@#$%tch to re-thread. It threads NOTHING like the Singer cabinet machine I have of this same era (or earlier). I've sewn with this machine quite a bit, mostly papercraft stuff, and am not sure I've ever had it threaded correctly. I've searched the web but haven't found much on this machine, until one day I found an Ebay auction for this very machine. And I struck gold as it had pictures of the machine THREADED! I finally got mine threaded, in a way I have never done before, and I think it sews better than ever now. Imagine that! The machine on Ebay was going for 100$, so I think I got a bargain, so to speak.
Since I have finally successfully threaded this antique, I took some
pictures of it and am posting them here so I can 1) easily find them
in the future and 2) maybe help someone else thread their vintage gem.

Fonda - that machine is so cool. I just got one, too. But not nearly as nice as yours.

Thanks for taking a class in Ankeny. Your work is awesome!

How cool is that?! Does it have a foot trundle thingie? It looks a lot like the machine my grandma had, although I think hers was even older. What a great deal you found!

Happy T-Day, Fonda!

I have my grandmother's and I too forgot how to rethread and haven't used it in five years. I love to decorate with it because it's such a beautiful machine. Thanks so much for the great pictures!!!

I took the belt off my machine and it appears to be this belt here:
Stretch Belt #TB-100 (PD)(820)(E-Z 6"to 7") 13"
on this web page:
http://sewingmachine221sale.bizland.com/store/page101.html

According to their E-Z measure system, my belt is about 6 inches, so I think this one would work.
Good Luck!!

Hey, I found one of these beauties at goodwill the other day. I'm in the process of restoring it. If you want some more information, these machines were built after WWII in Japan, as knockoff versions of the popular Singer sewing machines at the time. Not surprisingly, the Japanese machines have a reputation for smoother stitching and more reliability. Many of these machines are the kind you would find with a Sears or Macys logo, instead of Premier. Mine's a 1953, and I'm redoing the paint/decals, as well as the wiring. Odd coincidence, I live in Iowa City!

I also need a manual. My machine looks like it has never been used and has so many feet it is amazing. However, no manual. Anyone got a clue where to locate one?

I just picked up a FREE Home Electric Deluxe 1953 Model on the Wilmington, NC, CL! It also appears to be a semi-knock-off of a Singer 221 Featherweight. I am going to restore it and add it to my collection. If anyone has any info on a manual, please post it or send me a link to j3thomas@northstate.net. Thanks to "Just us, in Iowa" for posting pictures on how to thread it.

I found our Premier 1953 at the curb, for free in a case. Motor runs, machine turns, and lamp lights. But, I don't know how to sew! No accessories with it, but I found a generic 14 page instruction manual on-line, for HA-1, 15 class sewing machine that looks like the Premier. Should be good enough to start. This machine looks so pretty and is to good to discard!

Hey! I just found one of these on the street in Brooklyn! (best place for pickers to find treasures). I want to know it’s worth. It has the foot pedal, light attachment and all original plugs and wires and it works! If ya find the value let me know!
